bornite, also known as peacock ore, is a copper sulfide mineral rich in copper content much like chalcopyrite & often mixed with chalcopyrite. the rainbow iridescence is a tarnish caused by exposure to oxygen. sometimes acid bathed chalcopyrite is sold as peacock ore, especially in souvenir shops & such. this is true bornite, ethically sourced from mexico.
